1st Hugglescote (Robin Hood) Scout Group

1st Hugglescote (Robin Hood) Scout Group is a group within the county of Leicestershire that falls into the Ashby & Coalville District. The Scout group was established November 1923, making it the longest surviving Group in the district. As the age range for every Scout section is 10 years old through to 14, 1st Hugglescote Scouts welcome boys and girls of these ages.

For anyone outside of these ages who wishes to get involved with Scouting, we'd advise checking out other sections of Scouting such as Beavers (6 – 8yrs) and Cubs (8 – 10yrs).

Scouting is a great opportunity for young people to socialise and have great amounts of fun, as well as learning many valuable skills. Here at 1st Hugglescote Scouts, our number one priority is having fun. We do this by ensuring that we equally mix the balance of learning whilst having fun in a way which is effective in all areas.

Furthermore, we have a strong team of excellent leaders who all bring a wide variety of skills to the group. This ensures our Scouts always have an upcoming camp or activity to look forward to.

For example, there wasn't the opportunity for a suitable week long international summer camp in 2009, so we decided to hold a series of weekend camps in order to ensure our Scouts had sufficient amount of camping fun and experience.

At 1st Hugglescote Scouts it has always been a priority to attract new members in order to keep more people in the local community having fun and interacting with more people they may not usually choose to interact with.

We always encourage current Scouts to bring friends if they desire and, to aid this process, when a new person attends a Scout meeting for the first time, that week is free, and so too are the following 3 weeks. After the first 4 free weeks, anyone who joins 1st Hugglescote Scouts is required to pay a small weekly fee of £3 ‘subs‘ and a yearly £10 subscription fee. 1st Hugglescote Scouts weekly meetings are Monday evenings, 7pm 'til 9pm.

"During my time at 1st Hugglescote Scouts, I have thoroughly enjoyed every camp I have attended; and have therefore attended as many camps as possible. Due to scouting, I have experienced first-hand many fun activities I wouldn't normally get chance to partake in. Some of my favourite activities have included White-Water Rafting, Abseiling and Rock Climbing on natural cliffs overlooking the beach in Bude, Canoeing, and Surfing to name a few; there is an astonishing amount of activities to try and enjoy. I am proud to be part of the Scouting movement as it is always so much fun, with so many opportunities to try new things. Scouting has also taught me many physical skills, as well as developing aspects of my personality, enabling me to become a more respectful, understanding, and responsible person, whilst remembering how to have fun in a safe and happy environment."
